Q:Tell us about yourself & your family…

A: I’m married to my wonderful physician husband, and I am blessed with great and successful children, two sons and a daughter. I especially appreciate my daughter’s talent at picking out my makeup at Sephora. My father came from Korea to pursue education in 1955. As the third of four daughters I grew up in Palos Verdes and graduated from UCSB. I have lived in San Juan Capistrano for 20 years. 


Q: Tell us your age

A: I’m 20 years old + 408 months (if you are difficult at adding like me, that’s 54). 


Q: How long you have been coming to Mantra?

A: Since it opened! I have been taking Pilates for 11 years and got my certification to teach Lagree pilates in 2015 but have yet to teach it myself.


Q: How did you hear about Mantra?

A: I started with the original owners and have continued with the Mantra studio since its start. I love the instructors at this studio. They are very knowledgeable of the body and explain how each exercise affects it. Every class works out the core, legs and arms in less than an hour. I love the openness of the studio and the overall aura. The instructors make class fun, even though they are kicking your butt!


Q: What keeps you motivated?

A: It all started eleven years ago. I have always been about the same size, but one day I realized that my Juicy Couture velour track pants did not look the same on me. I was shocked. I had always watched what I ate and used to do a lot of dance and ballet, but suddenly, those pirouettes simply weren’t cutting it anymore. I looked at myself in the mirror and had to come face-to-face with reality: I needed STRENGTH TRAINING. Ever since I started Pilates, I have become leaner and more toned at the same time. My overall strength and core have never been stronger. I have lost 10lbs since starting Lagree pilates and have never been stronger. I have become so much more aware of my form and flexibility than I ever have been. I love, love, love taking these classes. I never regret taking a class. I only regret not taking class. And for not getting rid of my Juicy pants sooner.


Q: What other workouts do you do to stay fit?

A: Lagree pilates on a nearly daily basis is enough for me…unless you count chasing my dog after he steals my bagel in the morning! I never lack for energy during the day.


Q: What is your favorite Mega Move?

A: My favorite moves are the ones that use resistance to force me to use my core like reverse wheel-barrow, reverse bear, reverse kneeling crunches and bungee kicks.


Q: Tell us about your diet…

A: Are you vegetarian, do you follow a specific diet or have any special tips for our readers?I don’t have a strict diet. I try and focus on maintaining a healthy balance and only eat until I feel satisfied. I also find eating the same thing everyday helps with my cravings.


Q: Do you have a favorite snack?

A: Beef jerky and See’s Candies. Separately, of course.


Q: Is there anything else you would like to share with us?

A: I’ve managed to do pilates for 11 years and still find each class challenging. Plus, no injuries. Mantra classes is one thing I look forward to doing. Everybody in the studio is encouraging and uplifting. Also, I don’t know over 50% of the music you play, but I like it. It makes me feel hip.
