Kathryn came to Mantra in December 2016 after losing her "workout mojo." She wanted to shake up her fitness routine...and tightening up her midsection would be an added bonus! Six months later and she has toned up, gotten stronger, and is loving every class!

How did you find Mantra, and what were your goals when you first started working out here?
I knew Rachel many years ago when we both had our first children. When Mantra initially opened I read about it and thought it looked really interesting, but I was one of those “independent” workout people; I ran, did workouts at home either on my spin bike, using dvd’s, or pilates mat work, which was my favorite workout. I noticed in the past year that I was losing my workout “mojo” and with my mid-fifties came a little softness-especially in my midsection. I clearly needed to shake it up a little to make changes I desired. After running into Rachel last November and telling her I really needed to get that mojo back, I jumped at her invitation to try a Mantra class. I started that same week and haven't looked back since!
What did you think when you first started taking classes?
I was very impressed with many aspects of the Mantra workout. Coming from a physical therapy background, I am all about form and controlled movement. The fact that every movement is slow, controlled, and form is cued throughout is why every move is so effective. I couldn't believe how hard it was! I was sweating, but loving every minute as I could feel myself getting stronger. I still get sore after every class, but not so sore that I can’t move, or come to class the next day. What also struck me was that every class is different, and every instructor is consistent. I am constantly learning, and constantly challenged. The atmosphere is encouraging, supportive, and a lot of fun!
How has your body changed since starting Mantra?
Because I have always been active, I am fortunate that my weight has not been much of an issue for me. So I haven't lost weight per se. I have toned up, tightened up and feel so much stronger all over! I have noticed a huge difference in my abs and my butt. I am noticing now that I am improving my form, and speeding up those transition times between moves that really ups the difficulty in each class as downtime is minimal and the workout is constant for 50 minutes.
What are your goals now?
My goals now are to keep up the work I have been doing, but push it harder every class. I can do this by really focusing on my form in every movement, choosing the more advanced modifications the instructor offers, and increasing the spring resistance when I can. That’s what so fantastic about Mantra, every client can work as hard as they want within the confines of class, easier and harder modifications are prompted in every move. Mantra is for everyone!
What's your best advice for others who are just starting to work out at Mantra?
I would tell everyone to keep on plugging at it, it’s worth it! View each time you book a class (love the app so I do it from my phone) as a commitment, once you show up just remember you’re going to feel great in only 50 minutes and walk out stronger and leaner than when you walked in. It gets easier, so enjoy the results!
